Best Bodybuilding Staple Food: Proteins

bodybuilding staple food - protein

There is a fallacy amongst bodybuilders that all we can eat is the same old bland foods with no variety. The ones who take their craft seriously will argue to no end that this is not the case since no one has to eat bland foods. Adding flavor to food does not have to be done at the expense of your macros. Let’s talk about a key bodybuilding staple food – protein.

The one truth though is that most bodybuilders do have their staple go-to protein foods that are always at the ready to be included in their daily diets. Read below to find out what some of my staple bodybuilding foods are and you will find that most bodybuilders do not stray very far from this list as part of their own diets as well.

Egg Whites

Egg whites are one of the main sources of quality lean protein and yet another bodybuilding staple food. I hard boil eggs in large quantities as these are amazing go-to snacks at any time of the day. But, I typically start my day with 8 egg whites as part of my breakfast. I average at least a dozen egg whites per day. I pick a couple hard-boiled eggs out of my refrigerator as snacks a few times per day as a way to keep a steady flow of protein.

Milk

I grew up barely ever drinking milk and had no idea what I was missing. These days, I drink at least a half gallon of milk per day as another way to keep a steady flow of quality protein coming in. These constant glasses of milk also keep me feeling satiated throughout the day.

Top Round Steak

Sure, I love my leaner proteins, but red meat is not only tasty, it also provides top quality protein especially during bulking season. Top round steak is leaner than the majority of steaks out there and is also a great choice cut for making beef jerky.

Salmon

Salmon is not only tasty and simple to broil, but is loaded with quality protein and Omega-3 fatty acids that bodybuilders need for building stronger muscles. Containing a higher amount of fat that the leaner fishes, it is also very filling.

Boneless Chicken Breast

While most people reach for boneless chicken breast as their go-to protein, I have it listed as my fourth protein. Chicken is extremely versatile and lean. boneless chicken breast can be seasoned in so many varieties hence its popularity. Purchased in bulk, boneless chicken breast can also be quite affordable.

Tuna

Tuna is an amazing fish as it is wonderful if broiled and is extremely handy in the can. It is always available in my pantry and I keep cans in my office desk in case I happen to forget lunch. If you want a nice tuna recipe, check out our tuna burger recipe.

Cod

Cod is not normally in most bodybuilders’ list of bodybuilding staple food and proteins, but cod is an amazing fish. It is tasty if cooked properly and has a wonderful texture. I love to eat cod a few times per week.
