L-Leucine, L-Isoleucine and L-Valine are commonly grouped together and referred to as Branched Chain Amino Acids, or BCAAs, because of their unique branched chemical structure. BCAAs are essential, meaning that they must be consumed through the diet, since the human body cannot make them from other compounds. BCAAs have long been used by strength-training and endurance athletes alike to activate protein synthesis and reduce muscle breakdown caused by intense training. Our Instantized BCAA 5000 Powder is made using a proprietary process that mixes easily and keeps the BCAAs suspended longer so they do not readily settle to the bottom of the glass.
The first thing that I would like to note is that I prefer the unflavored option on Optimum Nutrition’s Instantized BCAA 5000mg Powder as I typically mix it in my pre-workout and post-workout shakes. I rarely ever take this with water on its own. I like to get the flavors in my shake from the protein powder and natural sources such as fruit that I mix in. ON’s flavored BCAA powders aid a little with taste if you are mixing it with water, but it overpowers a shake with chocolate powder. On the other hand, if you take the unflavored powder with water, it most definitely has a flavor, and not a pleasant one.
As with most of Optimum Nutrition’s products, the Instantized BCAA 5000mg Powder does what it is intended to do. There are no flashy gimmicks to the label, no unnecessary ingredients added to the mix. I like the way that ON thinks. I take supplements for function – not for taste. I can tolerate pretty much anything that I ingest without blinking an eye. I think that this is the norm for bodybuilders as well. We are more concerned of a supplement’s effect more so than its taste.
Optimum Nutrition Instantized BCAA 5000mg Powder’s mix-ability is just fine when mixed with water. Its mix-ability is also fine when included with a protein powder.
The effects of ON’s Instantized BCAA 5000mg Powder are just what you are looking for in a BCAA. It aids in recovery and repair as is advertised and does just that. Using supplements properly are one of the easiest ways to avoid DOMS, which I rarely ever get.
ON has also produced a rather affordable BCAA powder. You should not be paying an arm and a leg for any BCAA powder and Optimum Nutrition’s price is fair.
My biggest pet peeve about Optimum Nutrition Instantized BCAA 5000mg Powder is that the container does not contain a scoop. I have extras from other products, but it pains me that the extras pennies that it would cost them to add a scoop are not spent. I know that this is petty, but it bugs me that they did not go that extra step with this product.
Overall, this is my BCAA powder of choice and is something that I use everyday as part of my workout regimen.
