Elisabeth Hasselbeck is best known as the 2001 finalist of the CBS show “Survivor: The Australian Outback,” former Emmy Award winning co-hosts of ABC’s “The View” as well as a contributor to “Good Morning America.” Due to a very restrictive diet for 39 days during “Survivor,” Hasselbeck experienced a noticeable relief from her severe stomach pain that she has been suffering from for years. Specialists and nutritionists were not able to diagnose her real problem, so after the show and the success with different foods in her diet she found out that she has Celiac Disease.

From that moment on, Hasselbeck went gluten-free and released a best-selling book, “The G-Free Diet: A Gluten-Free Survival Guide” as well as the follow-up cookbook “Deliciously G Free” in 2012.

Early in 2011, Hasselbeck introduced NoGii, her own line of gluten-free nutritional products for the entire family. NoGii also introduced gluten-free protein and snack bars for kids and adults.

Glutan-free is something that I have a lot of familiarity with knowing a handful of neices, nephews and friends of the family that are dealing with Celiac Disease. I am still not sure if it is easier for a child to deal with it more than an adult, but it is something that I wish no one had to deal with.

Upon reaching out to NoGii for product samples for review, I was surprised that they sent over a few full boxes to sample. A guy cannot argue with that. One of those boxes was a box of NoGii Super Protein Bars in Rocky Road flavor. The product boasts an “ultimate taste” as well as being a “high-energy” solution “to meet men’s even higher nutritional demands.”

I will get it out of the way right now. The Rocky Road flavor is phenomenal. I am not a guy who craves sweets nor do I care for a lot of them, but eating something as fulfulling as this bar just feels good. The density of the bar gives you that vigh voltage rush that the bar promises while providing you with 26 grams of of soy protein. The bar is even packed with 15 grams of fats and 45 grams of carbohydrates. I love the inclusion of that fats because I do not get many fats from my foods. My fats normally come from salmon, nuts and avovados, but I do not even eat those items every day. More important than flavor to me is the texture of the food and NoGii has nailed a wonderful texture because of the soy crisps used in its recipe.

With 410 calories and that fatty content, you know that the NoGii Super Protein bars are very filling. This is not something that many people could tolerate before an intense workout, but is something that one could take advantage of this goodness after a workout. I have been using the bars as snacks on rest days or far after my workouts. I am not exactly a big eater, so ingesting calories is something that is much harder for me that working out. NoGii has just given me that edge that I need to get the good calories in me that I need. Most days, I take in 6 scoops of protein powder, and I know that a lot of people would find that way too much.

If I had to complain about anything with the bars, it is that the price point is slightly higher than other bars, but with the amount of protein per serving and the wonderful macro balance of these bars, I find the cost to be very competitive. I guess that is not exactly a complaint since I would gladly pay for the quality that NoGii brings with their Super Protein bars.
