What Are Trans Fats?
Trans fats and partially hydrogenated oils are regular vegetable oils that undergo a process called hydrogenation, which is the addition of hydrogen atoms to the molecular structure of fats. The terms trans fats and partially hydrogenated oils are one in the same.
Are Trans Fats Dangerous?
You bet your bottom dollar they are. Trans fats have a melting temperature of over 100 degrees Fahrenheit while our bodies operate around 98 – 99 degrees Fahrenheit. Since your body cannot melts these fats, they will sit in the arteries, which will in turn lower the body’s insulin sensitivity and raise bad cholesterol levels.
When insulin sensitivity is lowered, the body loses the ability to accept insulin, which carries raw materials that your cells need (proteins, carbohydrates, fats). to live. At this point, you are not only affecting your ability to build muscle, you are also affecting your overall health.
Where Can I Find Trans Fats?
Trans fats are far too available these days, but that does not mean that you cannot avoid them. Foods like french fries, pizza, among other fast foods are the reason for people’s diet being loaded with trans fats. Avoid foods with trans fats at all costs. Bake your own fries instead of frying them. Create your own pizza with your custom ingredients.
Read Labels Carefully
Legally, a food can say that it contains 0 trans fats if it contains less than 1 gram. As an example, a food item that has 0.90 grams of a trans fat can still be listed as having 0 trans fats. Read the label carefully. If you see in the ingredient list partially hydrogenated oil, then you know that the food has trans fats.
Overall, trans fats may be readily available, but that does not mean that you need to ingest them. If you care about your body enough to workout, then you need to care about your body even more by maintaining a clean, healthy lifestyle and avoiding trans fats. I have always considered foods with trans fats to be poisons that you should never taint your body with. There is always a healthy alternative to any food that you want to consume.
